What can I use without a subscription, and what needs one?
Since 16 September 2026: the download is free of charge, barcode lookups are unlimited without a subscription, and every account has three AI analyses without a subscription. Photo scans, describing a meal, menu scans and the AI analysis for barcodes the database does not know all count as AI analyses. From the fourth AI analysis on you need the "Kairo Unlimited" subscription.

What counts as an AI analysis?
Every new meal that Kairo's AI calculates: a photo scan, a description by text or voice, a menu scan of a restaurant menu, and the AI analysis that steps in when a barcode is missing from the database or has no nutrition values there.
A normal barcode lookup does not count: if Open Food Facts finds the product with nutrition values, that is not an AI analysis and is unlimited without a subscription.
Does a correction count as a new analysis?
No. The count is per meal, not per calculation. If a meal was logged with one of the three analyses, you can re-analyze it or adjust it by description afterwards without using up another analysis. Only new meals count.
How do I see how many analyses are left?
The camera shows how many analyses without a subscription your account has left. Once they are used up, the next AI analysis opens the offer for "Kairo Unlimited".
The count is kept per account on Kairo's server, not on the device. Reinstalling the app or switching iPhones does not reset it.
What does the subscription include?
There is exactly one subscription, "Kairo Unlimited", as a weekly or yearly plan. There is no second premium tier and no advertising in the app. Prices and the yearly plan's trial are covered in Prices, plans and the free trial.

Do I get new analyses without a subscription every month?
No. The three AI analyses apply once per account, not per week or month.
Are barcode scans really unlimited?
Yes, as long as the product is in Open Food Facts with nutrition values. Only when the AI has to step in because the product is missing there does it count as an AI analysis.
Does Kairo show ads if I do not subscribe?
No. Kairo shows no advertising, with or without a subscription.
Kairo reads your meal from a photo and shows calories and macros. For iPhone, with Apple Health and Apple Watch.
