How do I connect Kairo to Apple Health, and which data is synced?
Kairo syncs with Apple Health in both directions if you allow it. It writes calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat for each meal. It reads active energy, resting energy and your body weight. You turn the sync on and off in your profile under "App Settings" → "Apple Health".

Turn on Apple Health
- Open your profile in Kairo and tap "App Settings".
- In the "General" section, turn on the "Apple Health" switch.
- iOS shows the Apple Health permission dialog. Choose which categories Kairo may read and write, and confirm.
- To turn it off, flip the same switch back. You can change or revoke individual permissions at any time in the Health app or in iOS Settings.
What does Kairo write to Apple Health?
Four values for every meal: dietary energy (calories), protein, carbohydrates and fat. If you change a meal, the entry in Health is updated; if you delete it, it is removed there too.
Kairo does not write any other categories.
What does Kairo read from Apple Health?
Kairo requests read access to three categories: active energy, resting energy and body weight. Kairo shows the active energy measured by iPhone and Apple Watch as calories burned. It takes your weight from Health so you do not have to enter it twice.
The app states what the switch does right next to it: "Active calories raise your daily goal. Your weight comes in from Health automatically."
When does the sync run?
While the app is in the foreground: when you open it, when you return to it, and when you pull down to refresh on the home screen. There is no background sync. The energy burned in a workout therefore shows up the next time you open Kairo.
Where is my Health data kept?
Kairo processes HealthKit data locally on your device. It is not transmitted to Kairo's servers unless that is required for a function of the app. Access only happens after your explicit consent in the iOS permission dialog. Details are in the privacy policy.
What if the switch does not stay on?
Then the permission is missing. In that case Kairo shows the notice "Permission Required" with the options "Try Again" and "Open Health App". Check in the Health app whether Kairo has access to the categories.
If meals appear twice in Apple Health, two apps are writing nutrition data. Allow only one app to write it.
